"the practice"

OPENING SEQUENCE:
The main theme song of "20th century Fox" begins to play.

I have a dream.......
[like "Martin Luther King.Jr" : the speech of 1963]

I know you guys here also have dreams, such as going abraod or living overseas, passing the STEP exam,TOEIC,TOEFL or whateverit is. You name it. As you know, so many people are studying English.A lot of time is dedicated to this. And it must be a huge commitment
of time and effort. But.
Why do people study English ? For bussiness? Pleasure?
What's your reason ?
Different people have different motivations.
When I ponder my motive, I can't seem to find one. At least not exactly.Personaly, I don't truly enjoy studying to begin with.Other than the entrance exams, I hadn't spent much time studying English.
To tell you the truth, I haven't been studying English as much as I'd like to. I mean, I can't. Even if I'm dying to study, I sometimes can't.I am very busy in the first place. But then again, who isn't ? Upon entering the working world, I realized that I went from having some free time, to having zero free time.I've had my seccesses and failures, I can't complain. So therefore, I keep trying.I just want to say it's hard to find time to study English on a daily basis.
Ironically, I have to use English at work.¡¡When I had to speak English at work , there was no time to stop and think about grammer or syntax.
I found myself atempting to speak English although I didn't have enough abilty to do so. I guess you could say, " I was winging it". It was miserable. Yet, at times comical.
¡¡Fortunately, everybody I had a chance to communicate with seemed sympathetic to my weaknesses. I'm fortunate enough to get a chance to meet a lot of intersting and, in some cases I guess you could say famous people.
Luckly for me, almost all of them had great social skills. They made up for my lack of communicative competence
and seemed forgiving for my lack of English skils .
¡¡In some cases, people I've met are kind of representatives of their nations and societies, or even cultures. They have been always careful and patient.
They have never hurt me, for that matter.
In hindsight, Ithink that I'm lucky to have many opportunities to meet wonderful people. Thanks to them, I feel like I have been able to manage in most of these
situations so far. Thanks to them, I feel like I have been able to manage in most of these situations so far.
I like to believe that they didn't look down on me. But, I really don't know.
Sometimes, it looked like they felt sorry for me, just because I could't speak English so well.
I often felt kind of humiliated when I couldn't find the right words to say.
[aproaching the jury members step by step]

I wanted so badly to say what I really felt, to communicate my feelings, opinions, and ideas to these people.¡¡But how could I ? I hadn't even come to
close to mastering English, let alone being able to communicate at an elementary school level.
¡¡¡¡¡¡
Have you ever experienced any of these feeling ?
[like asking each jury kind of insistently]
And if yes, tell me, how does it make you feel ?¡¡¡¡¡¡
Especially if it happens, over and over and over.......
Have you ever felt frustrated enought to quit ?
[Going back to the stage and stand on the platform again]

Anyway, to make a long story short, I guess we've all had our share of rocky roads.
Sometimes It's tough. It's not fun. And yes, I have wanted to quit. How many times?
Well...... that's classified information.¡¡But it seems recently since coming to ACCESS
I can honestly say
that I've really found my niche. I enjoy it here.
Revenge is so sweet. Am I winnig that battle ? I don't know.
But I do know that I'm having more fun now than ever before.
And guess what ?¡¡I wanna continue! I understand my limits.
But let's try pushing the envelope.

Recently, along with Mr.Sekiya, I have established a new, innovative so to speak, group here at ACCESS. We call it "P-Group".
The caracter "P" comes from the term "practice" and is inspired by that fabulous
American TV
drama; "the practice", that is.
So basicly in this group, we watch videos in our free time before the meeting.
Then we go over a set of questions that have been made by our weekly chairperson.
That person is also responsible for leading the meeting as well as choosing the pieces.
Although most of the story is fictional, we have real conversations.

And it's fun. Isn't it ? eh?
[Expecting some reactions from the jury]

(... or, somebody might say "Objection ! Your honor." )

Sustained.(0verruled)
Well, anyway. What have we been doing recently ?
"Ally McBeal", "the practice","L.A.Law", and A Spike Lee movie, called
" Do The Right Thing".
I'd like to extend a warm welcome from P-Group to any of those who would like to check us out.
One really needs to feel comfortable when speaking English.
And I guess I feel comfortable.
Again, I'm asking. Why do you study English ?
Here is my reason. I just want to communicate in English. And I enjoy using it.
The most important thing to me is having fun. Entertainment.
Of course, studying per-se is not easy and, we are not perfect. Especially ME.
Well......I'll keep trying to do the right thing. Something is better than nothing.

All we can do is to strive as much as possible to find something more suitable for ourselves.

Sometimes-in communication as in horseshoes- getting close is good enough.

[The ending song of "the practice" begins to play]

So, why don't you think differently ?

Thank you very much ladies and gentlemen.
