辞書で調べると
(2) 〈…することを〉延期する, 延ばす〈doing〉.
となっており例文は
Don't put off answering the letter. その手紙の返事を書くのを延ばしてはいけない.
となっています。

よってput offの場合はannouncingなんですね。
でも話し言葉なら（おそらく）どれでも通じるんじゃないかな？
put offでポーズして
put off, to announce the results until the end of the month.
put off announcement of the results until the end of the month.
名詞の場合は上記のように
ofとかいるでしょうね。

TOEICなどでは、
まず次の品詞から
名詞はだめ

そして
動詞 off + to ～　より
動詞 off ～ing のほうが
自然じゃないかなと
一瞬で判断するしかないと思います。

わかりやすい返事になっているかどうか不安ですが・・・
